Demolition Company Edmonton
Makki Demolition is an Alberta demolition contractor working in Edmonton and the surrounding communities. We handle residential teardowns, commercial and retail strip-outs, garage and deck removal, concrete breaking and removal, and full site clearing.
Every job starts with the same questions. What has to come down, what stays, where are the utilities, what is in the walls, and where does the debris go. We answer those before a machine moves, so the schedule you are given is the schedule you get. Crews are available 24 hours a day, and we are licensed and fully insured.

Demolition Services in Edmonton
Most Edmonton work falls into one of four categories. Which one you need changes the equipment, the permits and the timeline, so it is worth knowing where your project sits before you call.
Residential Demolition and Lot Clearing
Houses, garages, decks, sheds and foundations, taken down and hauled away so the lot is ready for whatever comes next. This is the usual first step on an infill rebuild. We disconnect and cap utilities, protect the neighbouring properties, and leave the site graded and clear. The same scope is described on our residential demolition page.
Commercial and Retail Strip-Outs
Offices, retail units, restaurants and warehouses cleared back to shell for the next tenant or the next build. Partitions, ceilings, flooring, millwork and redundant mechanical and electrical come out. Work in occupied buildings runs evenings and weekends with hoarding and negative air so the other tenants are not disrupted. See commercial demolition and interior demolition.
Concrete Breaking, Cutting and Removal
Driveways, slabs, foundations, retaining walls, stairs and pads. Where a slab has to be opened rather than removed, our cutting and coring crews scan first and cut to the engineer's layout. Concrete is separated on site for recycling rather than going to landfill whole.
Emergency and Unsafe Structure Removal
Fire damage, storm damage, structural failure or a building that has been condemned. These jobs cannot wait for a normal schedule. We mobilise 24/7, make the site safe first, then dismantle in a controlled sequence. More detail on our emergency demolition page.
Permits, Utilities and Hazardous Materials
Edmonton has its own process and it is not the same as Calgary's. Getting this part wrong is what delays projects, so we deal with it before scheduling the work rather than after.
Demolition permits
The City of Edmonton requires a demolition permit to remove a building or a substantial part of one. Utilities have to be disconnected and capped, and proof of that normally forms part of the application. We coordinate the disconnections and support the permit application so nothing is waiting on paperwork when the equipment arrives.
Utility locates
Locates are arranged through Utility Safety Partners before any ground is broken. In Edmonton that generally means coordinating around EPCOR for power and water and ATCO for gas, along with any telecommunications and private services on the property. Striking a live service is the fastest way to turn a one-day job into a three-week one.
Asbestos and other hazardous materials
Alberta Occupational Health and Safety rules apply province-wide and require hazardous materials to be identified and controlled before they are disturbed. Anything built before the 1990s should be assumed to contain asbestos until testing says otherwise, commonly in vinyl floor tile and mastic, drywall joint compound, pipe and duct insulation, and sprayed fireproofing. If suspect material turns up once we are underway, demolition on that area stops and we coordinate certified abatement before resuming.
What Working With Us Looks Like
- A site visit before a number. Access, structure, neighbouring buildings and debris routes all change the price. We look before we quote.
- A written estimate and a date. Scope, inclusions and exclusions in writing, so there is no argument later about what was in the price.
- Licensed, insured, WCB covered. Ask any contractor for proof of all three before they start. We will send ours without being chased.
- Material sorted, not just dumped. Concrete, clean wood and scrap metal are separated on site and diverted where there is somewhere to divert them to.

Edmonton Demolition FAQs
Do I need a permit to demolish a building in Edmonton?
Yes. The City of Edmonton requires a demolition permit for removing a building or a substantial part of one, and utilities have to be disconnected and capped before work starts. We handle the locates and the disconnection coordination, and we work with you on the permit application so the paperwork is in place before equipment arrives.
What happens if asbestos is found during the job?
Work on that area stops. Alberta OHS requires hazardous materials to be identified and controlled before they are disturbed, and that applies province-wide. Buildings from before the 1990s commonly contain asbestos in flooring, drywall compound, insulation and sprayed fireproofing. We coordinate certified abatement and resume once the area is cleared.
What does a demolition cost in Edmonton?
It depends on the structure, the access, whether hazardous materials are present, how much concrete has to come out and where the debris goes. We do not quote from a photo. We walk the site, confirm the conditions that move the price, and give you a written estimate before anything is committed.
Do you cover the areas around Edmonton?
